Geocortex Essentials offers comprehensive support for users of all abilities: it enables full keyboard control, is screen reader friendly, and provides elegant viewer capabilities that meet international standards for accessibility.
The first, out-of-the-box accessibility compliant web GIS viewer available in the market
Many jurisdictions and organizations are legally requiring accessibility support for web offerings, and historic exemptions for web mapping are being eliminated. Geocortex Viewer for HTML5 conforms to World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 AA requirements out of the box.
Extensive research and development, including targeted focus groups, went into making Geocortex a market leader in accessibility. Geocortex Viewer for HTML5 leverages keyboard navigation, screen readers and high contrast visualization options to make your applications accessible to everyone, regardless of their level of ability.
Industry-leading accessibility features
Screen readers dictate the user interface (UI) text aloud, allowing users to listen to the page instead of reading it. This is accomplished by monitoring the position of the mouse pointer and reading the text where the pointer is positioned. It does not matter how the pointer is controlled – end-users can use a mouse, keyboard, a sip-and-puff device, or any type of navigation mechanism.
High Contrast Visualization
When developing accessible mapping applications, it’s very important to carefully consider the use of colors and the visual presentation of text. Color should not be used as the only visual means of conveying information, indicating an action, prompting a response, or distinguishing a visual element. Furthermore, visual presentation of text and images of text should have a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1.
