“Hi, It’s Paul here from VertiGIS. Today we are going to have a look at how you can use Geocortex Item Manager to edit the configuration of your ArcGIS items. Let’s dive in!
Ok, so here we are inside of Geocortex Item Manager, and one of the best things about this program is its simple ability to view all of the configuration options for each of the items you have inside your ArcGIS Online or your Portal, all in one place. There’s no need to jump around to different menus or go into different locations. It’s all here for you to view and potentially edit if needed.
We’re going to look at a couple of things today. We’re going to look at a Geocortex Web App, of course, it could be any kind of web application, it could be Web AppBuilder or Experience Builder, any of those will work as well. I’m also going to look at a web map, the contents of a web map as well.
I’m going to look at the JSON of the web application here first, and a few things to be aware of is this tooltip.
As I navigate along here, each of these can provide a tooltip, providing a little bit more information on what this thing is and giving me a little bit more information on whether this makes sense for me to change or just in general knowledge, I guess too.
It also presents whether it’s read-only or not. So, if I can actually change it or not and it makes sense for some of these things to just not manually change. So, ID’s, owners and dates, those are all going to be read-only and that makes sense that that would be what that it is.
There’s also a couple of things that are simply just not available anywhere else to be able to edit and that’s these two sections here, ‘typeKeywords’ and this ‘properties’ section down here as well.
These sections are simply not editable anywhere else. This is the only place that you can go in and set these parameters manually and save them right away and your off to the races there. That’s really handy if that’s a need for you!
We’ll step over to the web map here, we are going to look at the content.
So, a common scenario here, sort of a disaster scenario here, is if a change is made, to something inside of a web map, let’s say a layer, a URL, or a layer ID, or something like that has changed, and essentially rendering that layer no longer usable within the web map. Really the only answer to that, is to simply remove that layer inside of the web map and add it back in.
That’s a huge inconvenience because symbologies disappear, pop-up information disappears, all of that needs to be reconfigured when you add the layer back in.
This is no longer a problem here outside of Geocortex Item Manager. If a change is made, to a layer, you can simply go in here, update that change and make a quick save. Now that layer is saved, has now been fixed, and will render just fine.
So, it is very much a more convenient method to fix any errors that might appear like that.
That was just a quick tour of Geocortex Item Manager and I encourage you to have a look at this application yourself for free at apps.geocortex.com/itemmanager and give it a shot.
That’s all I have for you today! Have a good one!”
